Phase I on this remote island in Georgian Bay was to build accommodations for the owners so they could enjoy the property during Phase II. The owners contacted Smith Timber Works for design / build service, understanding that Prefab is the answer when you build on an island, and that timber is a natural fit for the location. We are excited to follow the amazing team at Tamarack North as they take this project to the finish line. Stay tuned for more Island Adventures as we embark on Phase II.

"For years, we had fantasized about building a lakeside timber-frame home. Although we live nearly 4,000 kilometres away in Ontario, where plenty of timber-framing companies are locally available, we hired Brock after hearing countless good referrals about the quality of his team’s craftsmanship. We weren’t disappointed! Brock’s unique approach to modular construction, combined with his team's high level of detail, created an ideal strategy for our island property. After transporting the materials across the country by truck, we used a barge to deliver the house to the island, located around 20 kilometres from the nearest road. It might sound like an onerous logistical process, but the result was quite the opposite: working in a relatively remote location in Lake Huron’s Georgian Bay, our team was able to fully frame the house in three days, instead of a month which would have been required for a conventional stick-build. The joinery is beautiful, and everything fit perfectly, and let’s just say that the quality exceeded our expectations. We’ve already pulled the trigger with Smith Timberworks on the next phase of our project, and we’re looking forward to it!"
